We met President Carter
He was signing books at the Plains Peanut Festival. Eric had to work today, so it was just me and the kids. We did have to stand in a long line and he wasn't personalizing anything. Sam does not believe that this is really Jimmy Carter. I personally thought all the secret service agents were a huge tip toward us actually seeing the real thing. Awyn was a little shy when he offered to shake her hand. I was trying to take lots of pictures, including using my phone, and only got one that turned out. I wish I had the picture of him and Sam and Awyn. I was quickly shooed out by a couple of agents dressed 'folksy'. Wish I had pictures of that too. A little too much gingham and vests doesn't disguise the dress slacks and shoes.

Michigan Memorial
One of the Andersonville memorials. I don't have words that truly describe Andersonville. Come visit, you'll understand.

Selma to Montgomery
Sam and Awyn stand in a line with statues of marchers. This was a powerful and very well done site, Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail Interpretive Center.
Welcome to Alabama
This was at a rest area, right next to a sign saying, "Keep Off The Grass". It's not really a welcome sign, but it was as close as we could safely get to one.
Sam at the Cairo
The requisite picture of a boy missing a tooth under a gunboat cannon at the Cairo in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Awyn at the Cairo
The Cairo at Vicksburg captivated both kids. Awyn wanted to keep coming back in here to look at things.
Me and my Baby
Vicksburg, Illinois Memorial. When Sam was a baby we drove down here from Dumas, AR and Eric took a picture of me with a much smaller Sam on the steps to this beautiful monument.
Beautiful Kids!
Our farewell to Lincoln Bridge. Please forgive the out of order pictures. I'm doing them as they downloaded from our camera.
Welcome to Louisiana!
We pose in front of the Louisiana sign. Right after this picture was taken, I discovered that I was standing in a nest of red ants, and they bit the heck out of my foot. Unfortunately, we didn't get pictures of entering Mississippi, since we were driving over a rather large river, and we didn't get pictures of our actual entry to Alabama or Georgia, for various reasons.
Sam lost a tooth!
When Sam woke up in Arkansas, his tooth fell out. Luckily the toothfairy was ready in Selma, Alabama that night.
Old Washington Blacksmith
Sam and Awyn enjoy a blacksmithing demonstration at Old Washington in Arkansas. When we lived in Arkansas we went there a couple of times, and always enjoyed it. We slightly changed our route through Arkansas to take more direct highways and noticed how close to Hope we were getting, which also meant getting close to Old Washington. We decided on a mid-afternoon stop to let the kids out for a while.
