More rock throwing
Yes, that's Mexico across the Rio Grande. I think there's only a couple feet of water in the Rio right now.
Up a Creek
Terlingua Creek, to be exact. Awyn's in for a treat at Chickasaw. Both Sam and Awyn think the creeks there are rivers.
Awyn at Santa Elena Canyon
Yes, that's the mighty Rio Grande flowing out of Santa Elena canyon. Sam and Awyn had a blast hiking with Daddy.

Ranger Mama
Sam and Awyn call me Ranger Mama when I have the uniform on. Here I am at Persimmon Gap, just outside the visitor center. I have no idea why the ocotillo has leaves on it. It's been incredibly dry, and they need water to leaf out. They drop their leaves when it's dry. This one is also blooming, which makes for a pretty picture.
I favor the skirt for working inside a visitor center.
Strawberry Pitaya
One regret I have about leaving this park is strawberry picking. Strawberry pitaya fruit is wonderful, and it won't be ready before we leave.
Sam's fish stone
Grandma Debbie sent us these kits about a year ago, and I've been really bad about not doing them. So we did. We'll send her the final results. We've saved the molds and extra pieces so we can make more for our own house.
Green Dress
For those of you who know that I've been consumed with sewing dresses, I thought I'd share a picture of the finished dress. It's very green. I was joking as I dropped the dresses off this morning that they were going to be required park ranger uniform formals for the grand re-opening of the visitor center. Yeah right. Anyway, I'm done with the dresses, and I thought it was funny to play with the picture.

Our New House
As you will no doubt be able to tell, I'm excited about our new house. After a day of driving 100+ miles of house hunting, there was really only one choice. We liked the mini-McMansion, but it was overpriced for being so close to Walmart and lacking a garage, and also slightly above our preferred price range. We liked the house near the school, and that it was 4 bedrooms and newly remodeled, but thought it would be too much of a shock to be quite so 'in town' after our years of quiet desert living.
This house sits on a lot that is nearly 2 acres, and is out in the country. There is only 1 neighbor on one side; the other three are part of a ranch. It's fully fenced. 3 beds, 2 baths, and slightly less than 1400 square feet. The only downside is that it will be a commute in to town of about 14-16 miles every day for Eric, and for Sam to go to school if I choose to enroll him in the Sulphur school. There's also a school slightly closer in Wynnewood, and I've heard Stratford mentioned as a possibility too. There is a 'bonus' room in the dormer on the second story.
Some of the pictures are older, all of the interior shots are from its original listing back in May 2007.
Horse at the Corner
This is our landmark for where to turn off the highway. I hope they never remove it; it will make it ever so much easier to give directions to our new house!
The horse and shed
Ok, so we're not actually getting the horse. Sam and Awyn are convinced the house comes with a horse and two dogs. They are in for a bit of a bad shock, and will probably be mad at us, especially over the dogs. They really liked the dogs. We will have the enclosure to have a horse. Maybe goats. Maybe chickens. Maybe not. I know nothing about keeping livestock. I'm a city girl. Eric's the country boy.
Small garden
As seen through the pecan trees, there's a small, fenced garden. I'm looking forward to planting! Can you tell I'm mostly just posting pictures as I find them?
