Birthday Girl
This morning, before being dropped off at Lily's. Lily also had a cake and ice cream for her. Lucky girl!
Look! I'm Helping!
Sam helped me with the baking and frosting of this cake. He had to make sure the frosting tasted ok. He also helped me spread the orange frosting.
Awyn's cake
Sam decided we had to make the orange cat. I was going to make a siamese cat. The cake pan had pictures of a giraffe, a panda, an orange cat, and a pig. Sam had his heart set on matching the picture. Gotta love Wiltons. I've used this pan for well over a year now!
Elk
Last Friday this is what I had to deal with at work at Persimmon Gap. This is Mary. Mary is a semi-tame elk. She knocked over a Harley while trying to eat the leather off of a helmet strapped onto the seat of the bike. She also tried to enter the visitor center. Visitors were putting their arms around her and taking pictures. She was quite the nuisance. She belongs to a ranch/inholding inside the park and they've been trying to capture her for 3 months so they can relocate her to another ranch. If she shows back up at the visitor center, bad things could happen for her. I'm rooting for the ranch foreman to catch her first. She's teaching visitors bad habits. After a couple of hours of Mary, two resource management employees were able to move her away from the visitor center. I had to shut down for a couple of hours to keep the crowds away. Mary is attracted by crowds of people, especially pick-up trucks. Mary managed to make me look a little ridiculous, not that I always need some help with that, but still. Picture me in a ranger uniform, hat and all, telling a group of people to back away from her, that she's wild, etc., and she walks up behind me and nuzzles my elbow, and I'm sure there are visitors with pictures of me with my arm around the elk now. Also, I'd shoo one group off only to find another group surrounding Mary. People. Who'd've thought I'd have an Elk Jam at Big Bend National Park.

Truck Rider
If I'd only framed this right with the camera - still, you can tell she's having fun. Awyn likes to ride Sam's helicopter hauler. She's been riding it since she was about 1. Hard to believe that tomorrow she turns two!!!!
Yesterday
Before a thunderstorm hit, we played outside for quite a while. I'd already slathered both kids in sunscreen when they decided they just had to have swim suits. Normally I let them play in the nude. Awyn is starting to potty train, and it's easier if she's naked while outside.
Awyn the horse
Awyn is wearing Sam's horse costume, and also pretending to go to sleep. I think maybe we'd told her it was naptime, I'm not really sure.
Let Sleeping Sams Lie
The other morning we woke up to find Sam fast asleep next to our toilet, with his head cushioned on a nice pile of toilet paper. He was missing his pants, hence the heavily cropped photo.

Sam took this
Eric, Sam, and Awyn took a hike the other day while I was at work. Sam took a few pictures of his Dad and sister, and they actually came out pretty well.
Awyn being Awyn
Awyn loves this particular dress. She combined it with the pink Easter hat and a watering can (full of dirt) and even put on her own shoes (no socks) on the wrong feet. She played outside for quite a while this way.
